Waterline tile

Waterline tile installation for your pool or deck will is one of the most affordable ways to renovate pools in the Charlotte and Concord areas. Preparation

Measure the entire pool or spa to determine the amount of materials you will need. Measure the distance from the upper lip of the pool deck to 2 inches below the waterline. Take the measurements to your pool tile supplier and they can help you determine how much tile and grout you will need. They can also help you with colors and designs that are available. The next step is to drain the pool or spa until it is 6 inches below the waterline.  Be sure to close the drain valve. Remove any dust, contaminants, or moisture from the exposed area with clean rags.  

Installing the Tiles

You will bond the individual tiles or the tile mosaic patterns to the pool using a tube of silicone adhesive in a caulking gun. Start at one of the inside corners and apply the silicone adhesive on the back of the tiles in a zigzag pattern from corner to corner. Press the tiles into place. Make sure that they are even with the upper edge of the pool. This ensures that the tiles are perfectly vertical. Secure the tiles or mosaic with 2-inch masking tape on the tile and onto the upper surface of the pool edge.

Seaming the tiles

Install a tube of silicone sealant in your caulking gun. Cut a 1/8-inch opening in the tip. Apply the sealant using an upward motion with the caulking gun, then with the tip of your finger in a rag, smooth the seam and remove any excess sealant. Repeat this procedure for every seam between each tile. This includes the application of a uniform bead of sealant along the upper edge of the topside of the pool. Allow the sealant to cure for 24 hours before refilling the pool or spa to the waterline.
